We recently spoke with Mel, the owner of Embalm Skincare about her journey so far with her incredible skincare range.
1) What inspired you to start your business?
It all started with an allergic reaction to hand sanitizer. I don’t have any allergies so I was totally shocked. My face was completely swollen and I couldn’t see properly for days. I then started to look into the ingredients that go into personal care and skincare products and couldn’t believe what I discovered. Ingredients that are also used for brake fluid and garage decreaser are being used in skincare products! I vowed to create a 100% natural skincare range that women can trust what they’re putting on their skin. I’m all about honesty and transparency and I’m completely against greenwashing and animal testing.
2) Can you tell us a little more about your business?
Embalm Skincare is a hypoallergenic skincare range for busy mums with sensitive skin to help them get a clear and glowing complexion so they don’t even need to wear any makeup. On top of that, my products make it super simple to look after your skin. Busy mums don’t have time to complete a 12-step skincare routine, let alone time for selfcare. So the Embalm Skincare range of both face and body care products makes it super easy to care for your skin, look and feel amazing AND sneak a little bit of selfcare time in whilst having a shower!
The range has won 12 awards, has been featured in countless magazines like Australian Women’s Weekly, NW, OK, CosBeauty, Mindfood and more and also has lots of certifications: PETA certified Cruelty-free & Vegan, Allergy Safe, Made Safe and Toxin-Free.
3) What keeps you motivated?
My customers keep me motivated. I just love the feedback and testimonials they’re sending me. To hear someone say “your products gave me my confidence back, I don’t need to wear makeup anymore” really warms my heart. Just recently I have been sent a picture by a customer who never ever had the courage to post a picture of herself due to lack of self-confidence and skin issues. To hear her say that “my skin has never been so clear and thanks to Embalm Skincare I actually feel confident to post a no makeup photo” is what keeps me motivated and gets me up every morning.
4) What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful Mumpreneur?
You have to be a multi-tasker for sure. You have to have exceptional time management skills and you need to be top organised.
